Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for your next move?
Changing jobs can bring plenty of questions. Here are straightforward answers about working with Recruitment Labs, what to expect from the process and how we can support your career.
Yes, always. We're paid by the businesses we place you with, never by candidates. Talking to us, registering your interest and being represented by us costs you nothing.
Accounting & Finance is our core specialisation. That's where our depth, experience and networks sit. We have supported long-standing clients with broader executive appointments outside finance, but day to day, our work sits firmly within the finance market.
Our focus starts where finance roles become more technical, analytical, specialist or commercially accountable, and extends through to senior finance leadership. In market terms, that generally means qualified-accountant or experienced-specialist level and above, although a formal accounting qualification isn't essential for every role. We generally don't recruit high-volume transactional positions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or payroll processing roles.
All three. What's right largely depends on your circumstances, availability and your own objectives. We'll talk it through with you rather than assume.
Absolutely. Not every introduction begins with a live vacancy. Registering your interest helps us understand your background, career goals and what might make your next move worthwhile, so we can contact you when the right opportunity arises.
Our opportunities are primarily across Australia, with a growing number in New Zealand. While many roles are based around major business centres, we also recruit for regional and fully remote positions that can be performed from anywhere in Australia.
Very rarely. In almost all cases, you'll need to already hold appropriate Australian work rights, whether permanent or temporary. If you're based overseas, don't currently hold Australian work rights and are hoping we can find you a sponsorship pathway, we're honestly not the right agency for that search. Our network is built primarily around candidates already positioned to work here.
Absolutely. We regularly place working holiday makers, including 417 visa holders, into temporary and contract opportunities. If you're in Australia or arriving soon and have relevant experience in the areas we recruit, we'd be very happy to hear from you.
Yes, when it's genuinely relevant and we've talked it through with you first. We won't put your name on everything just to look busy.
No. We know how sensitive your job search can be, especially if you're currently employed or working in a tight-knit market. Everything you tell us stays between us. Discretion isn't a nice-to-have here; it's the baseline.
Never. And to be blunt, no agency in the market should be sending your details to an employer without your specific knowledge and consent. If a recruiter ever contacts you and says, “Great news, we've got you an interview with XYZ employer,” and you had no idea you'd been put forward, that's a red flag, not a win. It can cause real issues with your search.
No. We'll discuss references with you first and will never contact a current employer or referee without your knowledge and permission. Reference checks are normally completed toward the end of a recruitment process, once there is genuine interest from both sides.
We look at your background against the role and, if there's a genuine fit, we reach out for a real conversation with a real human being, not an AI screening process. We want to understand your experience, your aspirations and what you want next. If it's not quite right this time, we'll keep you in mind for what's coming.
No. Some of our best opportunities never make it to a job board. They may be confidential, newly opened or run through our own network. Registering with us means we can consider you for roles you'd otherwise never see.
If you're looking at a role we've advertised, you should be confident you meet the key criteria. We want it to be a genuine match, not a stretch. If you don't tick those boxes for a live role, that's not the end of the road. Reach out to us directly, register your general interest and we'll keep you in mind as the right opportunity comes up.
We aim to provide feedback quickly and pass it on openly, whether it's good or bad. Employer feedback is sometimes slower than we'd like, but you will never be left wondering what happened. Our goal is always to provide constructive feedback that can help and support you moving forward, not just a 'successful' or 'unsuccessful'.
If we're actively working through a live process together, expect to hear from us often, probably daily while things are moving. Outside of that, we're only ever a phone call away. Our time and energy are naturally prioritised toward the roles we're actively recruiting, so don't read anything into it if we're not calling you regularly. Please call or email us any time. We'll always get back to you.
Of course. Not every conversation needs to end in an application. We're happy to understand where you're at and stay in touch for when the timing is right.
Yes. We'll give you an honest read on how your background sits in the current market and where your expectations might need to shift, in either direction.
Yes, and properly. We'll set up dedicated time with you, in person or over Teams, to run through interview preparation that's specific to the actual opportunity, not generic tips. In most cases, we know the employer and the interviewers well, so we can give you real insight into navigating that process, not just the standard advice.
Yes. We'll help you understand the full offer, talk through any concerns and manage the conversation with the employer. Our role is to help both sides reach an outcome that feels clear, fair and sustainable, not pressure you into accepting something that isn't right for you.
More than 20 years in Accounting & Finance recruitment, direct access to the founder throughout your search, and a boutique model designed around personal attention. You deal with the person leading the assignment, from the first conversation through to the final outcome.
Of course. It's your search, and you should manage it in the way that works best for you. When speaking with multiple recruiters, remember to keep track of which opportunities have been discussed and where you have agreed to be represented. This helps you stay in control of your search and avoids duplicate introductions or confusion with potential employers.
Absolutely. Recruitment Labs works closely with a trusted affiliate network of founder-led recruitment businesses specialising in human resources, business support, legal and technology. If your background sits outside the areas we recruit directly, there's a good chance we can connect you with someone who understands your market and point you in the right direction.
